The ‘Offshore Wind Infrastructure Application Lab’ (OWI-Lab) is a Research Development and Innovation platform which aims to initiate and support R&D and innovation projects concerning wind energy in extreme environments as offshore, cold and hot climate conditions. The project itself aims to increase the reliability and efficiency of wind farms by investing in test and monitoring equipment that can help the industry in reaching these goals.
The OWI-Lab has been implemented and coordinated by Sirris, the collective centre of the Belgian technological industry. The initiative is supported by leading offshore wind energy players.
OWI-Lab is member of BERA, the Belgian Energy Research Alliance, gathering the main energy research in Belgium and participating in the European Energy Research Alliance EERA. Based on our activities and research, we closely follow up the EERA JP Wind subprograms test infrastructures, offshore, and structures. We are also a member of EWEA, the European Wind Energy Association. Also the initiative is active in IEA wind - subtask 19 on cold climate wind power.
