Exclusive Site Visit – Phynix & Eemshaven Energy Hub (01/09/26, Eemshaven, NL)
15 July 2026
Interested in the growing synergy between offshore wind and hydrogen production? Then don't miss this unique OWI-Lab Academy site visit to Phynix in Eemshaven.

Exploring the future of offshore wind and hydrogen integration
Phynix is a unique, not-for-profit, open-access test and teaching centre dedicated to accelerating the Dutch energy transition. Originally developed by CrossWind as the Baseload Power Hub for the Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind farm, it is the world's first hydrogen production platform designed specifically for offshore conditions.
Today, the platform has been relocated to Eemshaven, where it serves as a living laboratory for hydrogen technologies and energy system integration. During our visit, you'll get an exclusive tour of the facility and learn how researchers, students, industry and governments collaborate to test, demonstrate and validate innovative solutions for clean energy in an offshore context.

Groningen Seaports energy hub
We also aim to include a visit to Groningen Seaports (to be confirmed). Here, we'll discover the strategic role of Eemshaven and the wider Groningen port region, which has developed into one of the North Sea's leading energy hubs. Thanks to its concentration of offshore wind activities, energy infrastructure, hydrogen initiatives and industrial clusters, the region is at the forefront of the energy transition and the development of a future hydrogen economy.

Practical
The program for this site visit on Tuesday 01/09/26 - which is still being finalized - looks as follows:

Although Eemshaven is located at the very northern tip of the Netherlands and requires quite a bit of travelling, opportunities to visit a facility like Phynix are exceptionally rare. For anyone interested in the future integration of offshore wind and hydrogen, this is a visit well worth making!
Participation is free of charge and includes lunch and the guided site visit. Participants are asked to arrange their own transport. We encourage carpooling where possible, or travelling together by train to Eemshaven. Safety shoes are mandatory and must be brought by participants; all other required personal protective equipment will be provided on site.
