OWI-Lab stands for On -and Offshore Wind Infrastructure Application Lab. This collaboration between the wind energy experts within Sirris, VUB and UGent aim to initiate, support and execute R&D and innovation projects in the field of wind energy. Through technology expertise & infrastructure, innovation support services and international collaboration we support our Belgian wind energy sector to be worldwide industry leaders.

Projects

The OWI-Lab team aims to set-up collaborative research, development and innovation projects that lead to efficient, reliable and cost-effective wind energy. Our goal is to explore those collective RD&I needs within the industrial value chain that are of strategic importance for the future. Based on those needs we initiate 'shared R&D projects' with the right industrial and academic research partners – also in an international context. Trough our expertise partnership we also have set-up a range of unique industrial services to support the wind energy industry.

Services

Specific services have been set-up by OWI-Lab since 2010 to support companies with RD&I activities. Those supporting services include: in-field measurement campaigns, climatic testing of wind turbine components, corrosion testing, material degradation testing and root-cause analysis, structural health monitoring (SHM), wind turbine data-analysis, etc… Our team also offers expertise support services in the field of innovation and technology (state-of-the-art and market trend studies, benchmarking studies, road mapping, new business development exploration support) in the onshore and offshore wind energy sector. Masterclasses and keynote speeches are also provide by our experts.
